Product Description
Replacement item for HANDS ON Kit: 1-03260-00.
The philosophy in the HANDS ON guidebook comes from the authors’ experience with a blind preschooler mainstreamed into a Montessori classroom of 25 children ages 3-6. It incorporates many Montessori principles, such as the hand informs the mind, play is the work of the child, and the child grows through the process of performing a task.
The activities in the handbook encourage blind and visually impaired preschoolers to function independently in the classroom and at home. The work is presented sequentially, beginning with jobs such as pouring beans to more complicated tasks such as preparing snacks. These are not activities that must be done by the child in isolation from other children. Many lend themselves to small group or side-by-side play. However, children should have the opportunity to work alone at times, and concentrate on a task without interruption. This way the child can experience his or her own mistakes, correct them, and become increasingly independent and confident.
Learning can be fun with the wide variety of activities suggested in HANDS ON.
The tasks outlined in the HANDS ON guidebook involve simple materials and can be performed at school or at home.
