Campers enjoy navigating their raft through white water rapids Splash Into Summer with Sports Camps

It’s that time again. Time to sign up for summer camp! Camps are a great way to make new friends, try new activities, foster teambuilding, and boost independence. Often a camp experience is the only opportunity for students with visual impairments, who attend schools in their home districts, to play sports and meet other students with visual impairments. Kids will leave camp with fond memories they’ll cherish forever. This blog features three camps, two in North Carolina and one in New York.

S.E.E. Camp H20 is a FREE camp open to students in grades 8-12 who are blind or visually impaired. At this weeklong overnight camp, students will get the usual camp experience – staying in cabins, kayaking, climbing, archery, and exploring ropes courses. They will also have the opportunity to join their sighted peers for some of the activities. The camp is Sunday, July 4-Friday July 9 in King, North Carolina. Registration is open April 12-May 15.

S.E.E. Adventure Camp is another FREE camp open to students in grades 8-12 who are blind or visually impaired. Activities at this weeklong overnight camp include hiking, rafting, swimming, and zip-lining. The camp is Sunday, July 25-Thursday July 29, and located near Bryson City, North Carolina. Registration is open April 12-May 15.

The third camp is for younger campers as well. Camp Abilities is open to New York residents ages 9-19 who are blind, visually impaired, or deafblind. The camp is set up to allow for one-on-one instruction. Activities include soccer, basketball, track and field, and other fitness activities. This virtual camp is June 27th-July 2nd. Registration is currently open and closes on April 16th.

If any of these camps interest you, check out their websites for more information and registration. Whichever camp you choose, your child is sure to have a blast!
